Charging on the Run, Dubai’s RTA Tests New Technology

Dubai Silicon Oasis is known for being the test hub for EVs and Autonomous Driving. Dubai’s RTA has launched the test-run of the dynamic wireless charging of electric vehicles and buses in motion. The technology behind this is the Shaped Magnetic Field in Resonance (SMFIR) technology in Dubai Silicon Oasis.

Hats off to RTA has they are fully on track to meeting many of the country’s future visions. According to RTA Chief HE Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, “This project is one of RTA’s initiatives to promote the use of environmentally-friendly vehicles and sustainable transport means. It complements Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, Dubai Plan 2021, and the UAE Vision 2021.”

Commenting on the progress, he added, “RTA has tested an electric vehicle and a bus on this path, and results proved a highly efficient wireless charging system comparable with the cable charging. Moreover, the electromagnetic level on board was within the accepted global range.”

DEWA has installed over 240 charging stations for electric vehicles across Dubai, with plans to increase the number to 300 by the end of 2020. DEWA has extended the free charging period for electric vehicle until the end of 2021.The incentive applies to non-commercial users who register for the EV Green Charger initiative and is exclusive to DEWA’s public charging stations.
