Free Parking in Dubai for Dubai Registered Electric Vehicles

Dubai Electric Cars

In another leading move by the Emirate and Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), all electric vehicles that are registered in Dubai (i.e. have a Dubai number plate) get free parking until July 1, 2022! Another one of many incentives given to owners of electric vehicles in Dubai. Sorry non-Dubai car owners.

There are over 1,800 registered EVs in Dubai alone, and Dubai’s Green Mobility Strategy encourages more people to make the change to EVs. One other incentive to add to the free parking is the free charging at public charging stations in Dubai till end of 2021.

Commenting on the initiative is Eng. Maitha bin Adai, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA, “This initiative complements a previous initiative launched in 2018 designating parking slots in various parts of Dubai to electric vehicles exclusively. It contributes to improving the air quality, curbing carbon emissions and enhancing sustainability besides encouraging the public to own this type of vehicles.”

Owners of Dubai registered EVs do not need to apply for a special permit as the vehicle is identified as electric via the number plate all courtesy of the online link between RTA’s parking and licensing systems.

“The exemption started from the first of July 2020. Motorists have to comply with all public parking regulations and avoid misusing parking slots reserved or designated for specific categories,” she noted.

That means, park between the lines people!!!

If you want a complete list of where public parking charging stations are located, you can visit DEWA’s website to find everyone spread across Dubai.
