Audi pushing it with major announcements after the next! Just a week after the Audi Q4 e-tron debuted in a virtual event, the four rings teased a photo of its upcoming e-tron concept saloon reveal. No caption, no information, just that gorgeous picture up top, of the car that will debut at the Shanghai Auto Show taking place April 21 to 28. The photo caption suggests the reveal will take place on April 19, ahead of the show.
According to Autocar, this concept will be the a performance-focused saloon e-tron concept.
According to this report from Autocar, the upcoming Audi e-tron concept car will be an electric sedan, one that’s said to be similar in size to the A5 Sportback. It’s said that this will be the first Audi built on the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) all-electric architecture shared by Audi and Porsche. It’s also said to have styling and performance similar to the Audi e-tron GT. The PPE platform will serve as the brand’s larger EV platform, while smaller EVs will be built on the MEB platform, such as the Q4 e-tron.
The new Audi e-tron saloon concept is expected to launch in 2023, and is going to be an electrified version of the A5 sportback.
According to the report, it will be based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) that is shared by Porsche. This will be used for full-sized Porsche and Audi luxury cars in both the traditional car and SUV segments.
The PPE will have rapid charge times curtesy of the 800V charging functionality and will have enough space for batteries to propel the vehicle for around 480 kilometers. The vehicles will also come with a rear motor as standard and a dual-motor set-up for higher end variants.
From the teaser photo, you can see it resembles the e-tron GT. The slim lights, the low riding profile, massive wheels and brakes are what suggests for it to be a performance saloon.
I’ll have more info next week when we get to see the car.
